DISC SPORTS CLUB

ABOUT

The FSJ Disc Sports Club is dedicated to the enjoyment and advancement of disc sports in Fort St. John. We are a registered non-profit society run by local volunteers.

The FSJDSC was founded in April of 2016 with the intention of bringing disc golf to Fort St. John. In July, we were successful! We helped install a 9-hole tonal disc golf park at Toboggan Hill. Since then, hundreds of locals have used the course as well as being a stop for tourists interested in disc golf.

Our club is proud to have facilitated the donation of 60 discs to the North Peace Secondary School to start their students playing disc golf!

What is Disc Golf?

What is Ultimate?

Disc golf is played much like regular golf, except instead of hitting golf ball, you throw a disc (Frisbee). A golf disc is thrown from the tee area towards the target. The goal is to get your disc to the target in the least amount of throws.  Our tee pads are marked steal plates approximately 4 feet apart. Currently, Toboggan Hill has "tonal" targets. To complete the hole, your disc must strike the red tonal on top of the post. Each throw begins at the spot where your last disc throw landed.

Golf Discs

Golf discs come in a wide variety of shapes, colours and weights. There are three general shape of discs, each designed to perform with different distances and flight paths.

Ultimate, or Ultimate Frisbee, is a non-contact team disc sport. It is played similar to football. The disc is thrown and advanced towards the opposing team's end zone. Points are awarded for catching the disc in the end zone. The disc may only be advanced by throwing. Running with the disc is not permitted except the distance needed to slow yourself down. If the disc is dropped or intercepted by the opposing team, they obtain possession of the disc.

Ultimate Discs

Ultimate discs are similar to the very popular Frisbee brand disc. For competition play, the discs are a standard size and weight.

Where to buy

Disc golf and Ultimate discs can be found seasonally at Ernie's Sports Experts in Fort St. John and the Northern Toy Box in Dawson Creek or online at Disc Cellar and Ace Runners

TOBOGGAN HILL

Toboggan Hill plays host to Fort St. John's first and only permanent disc golf course. The course is 9 holes with a par of 29 . Championship level baskets replaced the tonal targets in May of 2017. MVP Black Portal baskets can be found at all nine holes plus a practice basket by the north-east parking lot.

Toboggan Hill hosted it's first ever disc golf tournament June 11th, 2017. The Trilogy Challenge saw 36 local and visiting players compete for a basket and glory. The weather sucked, but fun was had by all.

Tim Atchison was the big winner of the event. Elena Warkentin took home the hardware for best female. See our Instagram and Facebook pages for pictures!

We look forward to hosting more events on Toboggan Hill in the near future.
